Mr Mark Parker
Non-Executive Chairman of the Board
Mark Parker is a geophysicist and mineral exploration entrepreneur with 40 years’ experience in prospecting, consulting and corporate management in Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
Mark was appointed non-executive Chairman of International Geoscience Services Ltd (IGS) in January 2017. He is also currently forming a western European zinc venture.
Mark is founder and Managing Director of Equator Gold Limited, which explores for gold in South Sudan. He is also Chairman of Andiamo Exploration Ltd, a British company with gold and base metal VMS projects in Eritrea, and is a non-executive director of AIM-traded investor Blenheim Natural Resources plc. From 1996 to 2011, Mark was Managing Director of African Eagle Resources plc. Previously he worked for the British Geological Survey, Hunting Geology and Geophysics, Ark Geophysics and as a consultant. He holds a BA in Environmental Science from Lancaster University.
Dr Peter Zawada
Geologist with 27 years of experience. Previously Executive Manager Regional Geoscience and Mapping at the Council for Geoscience, South Africa, where he was responsible for national and commercial international multi-million dollar programmes and capacity-building initiatives. He has experience in reform and restructuring of National Geological Survey Organisations e.g. Botswana and Algeria.
Dr Bill McCourt
International geologist with over 35 years of professional experience. Previously Head of International for BGS (British Geological Survey) and responsible for delivering multi-million dollar geothematic programmes. Extensive overseas geoscience management and mapping experience including: Latin America, SE Asia, Africa and the Middle East. He currently manages projects in India, Kenya, and Burkina Faso, amongst others.
Mr David Ovadia
David Ovadia is a successful Chief Executive and Chairman with a proven record of achievement in the public and private sectors. He was a Director of Blenheim Natural Resources plc, previously Coburg plc, London AIM-listed companies investing in the global natural resources sector, CEO of Avenco Ltd and Chairman of South East African Mining (SEAM) Ltd, both junior explorers for gold and other minerals in Africa. He served as a Director of Spectrum General Partner Ltd and was previously the Director of International at the British Geological Survey, from which he spun out and was the founder Managing Director, and later Chairman, of IGS (International Geoscience Services) Ltd.
His academic and research career has included work at the Institute of Oceanographic Sciences and visiting lectureships at the universities of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent, Liverpool and Open; he is currently an Honorary Associate of the University of Dundee, Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law. He was awarded the MBE in 2010 for services to science and has carried out consultancies for the World Bank and several EU projects.
Mr Mark White
Mark joined Midven, an owner managed, entrepreneurial, venture capital company located in the heart of Birmingham in August 2006 and is Investment Director and Investment Committee member of the Rainbow Seed Fund.
He has over twenty years experience in investment with extensive periods in UK investment banking and emerging markets, including raising and managing a R100m fund in South Africa. Most recently, he led the transformation of NESTA’s investment operations, building it into the most active technology seed investor in the UK. He holds an MBA from London Business School.
Dr Ugur Algan
Ugur Algan has over twenty-five years of experience in technical and scientific Data Management in the E&P sector. In addition to being a Director of IGS Ltd, Ugur is the founder and Director of Volantice (an E&P Consultancy), and Chairman of FUSE Information Management Limited (an E&P software company). He has worked on a number of projects for international and national oil companies (including National Data Repositories for Argentina, Oman, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Egypt, Ecuador and India), and for international majors such as Shell and BP.
Previously, Ugur worked at Landmark/Halliburton, ILEX Technologies and CGG-PECC where he directed the development of a number of software packages for Example Data Management and related services.
Ugur has a Ph.D. in Geological Engineering, and has held positions in universities, including as a visiting scientist at MIT, Assistant Professor in Middle East Technical University, and research assistant in University of Missouri-Rolla.
Ugur is a contributor to international E&P standards initiatives, and has participated in SEG standards development for seismic data, and energistics standards initiatives. Ugur has also published numerous papers and delivered presentations in industry publications, meetings, and workshops.
Professor John Ludden
Before taking the post of Executive Director at the BGS, John was Director of the Earth Sciences Division at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). He has served as Director of Research for the CNRS in Nancy, France, where he also taught at the French National School of Geology (ENSG-Nancy). Prior to this, John worked at the University of Montreal, Columbia University and with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in the USA.
He holds a doctorate in Igneous Petrology from the University of Manchester, UK. John is a Past-President of the European Geosciences Union and EuroGeoSurveys and a visiting professor at Oxford and Leicester universities and was elected as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2012. In addition to being a Director of IGS, John serves on the boards of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Project (IODP), The International Continental Drilling (ICDP), and The Global Earthquake Model (GEM). He was awarded a CBE for services to Geoscience at the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2016.
